Berlusconi, Surveillance Tribunal: yes to early release

The go-ahead from the Milan Surveillance Court has arrived: Silvio Berlusconi will finish serving his sentence earlier than expected, i.e. the probationary assignment to social services imposed after his conviction for tax fraud in the context of the TV rights trial Mediaset.

The yes to early release for the Forza Italia leader came this morning from judge Beatrice Crosti, owner of the file relating to Berlusconi's activity at the Holy Family, a home for the elderly in Cesano Boscone, which will therefore end 45 days in advance compared to the natural expiry.

The Surveillance Court thus accepted the request presented by the ex premier's lawyers despite the negative opinion of the Public Prosecutor's Office. Calendar in hand, the probation period for social services will therefore end on Sunday 8 March. The original sentence was 4 years' imprisonment, of which three were canceled by the pardon.
