Silvio Berlusconi takes the field alongside the League in support of the referendum for autonomy which will be held on Sunday 22 October in Lombardy and Veneto.
"I don't know if I will be able to vote because I live in Rome but the referendum for autonomy - said the leader of Forza Italia - we want to propose it for all the regions to move the competence of 11 subjects from the center to the right place, the regional one" .
Sunday's referendum is purely advisory and will have no effect, even if it will weigh on taxpayers' pockets, but the political significance of Berlusconi's move is clear: wink at the League and try to consolidate the centre-right in view of the general elections spring to reconquer Palazzo Chigi.
