Berlusconi: "I'm now out of politics"

“I'm out of politics now, I'm just someone with a great sense of responsibility towards my country…”. the day after Raffaele Fitto's farewell to Forza Italia and two weeks after the regional elections, Silvio Berlusconi returns to talk about his (presumed or real) disengagement from politics. The stage is in Saronno, near Varese, where he is planning a series of meetings (precisely) to support the candidacy of mayoral candidate Pierluigi Zilli.

"I see in the dream of transforming the numerical majority of Italians (and whether it is a majority is not discussed) into an organized political majority, the only possibility to be able to give Italy the changes we need," he added. Responding to a question, Berlusconi explained that if the objective of uniting the moderates in a single political formation fails, "Italy would go on like this, as a country that is difficult to manage and without that possibility of modernization which is absolutely essential".

Referring to Angelino Alfano's commitment to bring together the moderates, however, he comments: "Best wishes, everyone says what they want." The leader of Forza Italia also criticized the pension repayment intervention announced yesterday by Matteo Renzi. “Renzi's initiative on pensions is absolutely unacceptable. "The Consultation's ruling was clear - he continued -, all pensioners must be given back what was taken away from them and which the Court judged to be incorrect" obviously without taking into account the public finance problems generated by previous governments .

Finally, the stoccatina to Raffaele Fitto who said goodbye to Forza Italia yesterday: "Do what you want". An answer that should be read as a sense of liberation for the release of its main antagonist.
