Berlusconi, the verdict of the Cassation on the Mediaset case expected tomorrow

The only certainty is that we will have to wait longer. The verdict of the Cassation on the Mediaset rights trial, initially scheduled for today, will not arrive before tomorrow. No request for postponement has come from the lawyers of the defendant number one, Silvio Berlusconi, sentenced in the second degree for tax fraud to four years' imprisonment and five years' disqualification from holding public office.

“Wednesday evening or more likely Thursday there could be the decision. Considering that between the report and the indictment there will be between 3 and 4 hours, I expect a fairly long time", said Franco Coppi, one of the Cavaliere's lawyers, specifying that the objective of the defense is "the radical annulment of the sentence of condemnation".

The deputy attorney general of the Cassation, Antonio Mura, began the indictment by underlining that "this is a process full of expectations and which arouses external passions and emotions which are manifestations of free debate and democratic life, but expectations and passions must remain confined outside from the space of the courtroom”.

Meanwhile, on the political front, the situation remains in the balance, with the PDL united in defending the former prime minister and the Democratic Party divided on the opportunity to continue the government alliance in the event of a final conviction for the centre-right leader. Everything will depend on which of the gods four possible scenarios will be realized after the decision of the judges.
