Berlusconi is eligible for re-nomination: the green light from the judges

The Surveillance Court of Milan has granted the 'rehabilitation' to Silvio Berlusconi effectively canceling all the effects of the conviction suffered in August 2013 for Mediaset tax fraud. Corriere della Sera writes it. That means from now, being the decision immediately enforceable, the Cavaliere is once again eligible as a candidate, as the effects of the Severino law which provided for the exclusion of Berlusconi from public life for six years also lapse.

The decision in short, it allows Berlusconi to stand as a candidate again in the event of political elections if the attempt by Lega and 5 stars to form a government fails. Indeed, as required by the electoral law, he could even compete for a seat if a seat were to 'remain vacant' in a single-member constituency. In fact, in this case there would be 'supplementary elections'.

Euphoria in Forza Italia. "Justice is done" commented the President of the forced deputies, Maria Stella Gelmini. In turn, the leader of the League, Matteo Salvini said: "I'm happy for Berlusconi and for Italian democracy." The news comes at a key moment in the formation of the new government: just in these days Lega and Movimento 5 Stelle are trying to close a deal which would leave out of the majority, among other things, Forza Italia, Berlusconi's party. On the other hand, in the event of new elections, he could personally run for prime minister.
