Petrol, now it's a war of discounts. At Esso, a liter of green can be paid for less than 1,40 euros

Eni has unleashed a veritable war on petrol discounts. To counter the promotional campaign of the six-legged dog, the other companies have also launched various offers on fuel prices, the average cost of which is therefore down.

The real surprise of this long weekend, which started well ahead of schedule, was Esso. The discount of "at least 21 cents" practiced during closing hours from yesterday's lunch break until Monday morning it has turned into -25 cents or even -29 cents in some cases, also thanks to the contraction by the manager or third-party owner of their margin.

In some plants petrol has therefore dropped to 1,55 euro/litre and diesel even to 1,39 euro/litre. A move that has routed the competition, starting with Eni, which from 13pm tomorrow will apply prices of 1,580 euro/litre for green and 1,480 for diesel in the plants adhering to the initiative. In this phase, the market leader appears to be further penalized by Q8's choice to bring forward the discount to June 28 in the city of Rome in anticipation of the long bridge of San Pietro e Paolo, which started the departures yesterday. Also noteworthy is the entry into the field of IP, with a drop of 16 cents also on served from 7.00 on Friday until closing on Saturday.

The other companies, on the other hand, remain more on the defensive. Shell maintains discounts of around 10 cents in most of the plants, while TotalErg confirms its strategy of defending its sales volumes with a 15 cent price cut in the most highly competitive areas. Targeted initiatives also by Tamoil. To close the circle the no-logo companies and the large-scale distribution, which apply strong reductions in the areas where the oil discount campaigns began yesterday.

According to Quotidiano Energia, the national average prices served are therefore today at 1,805 euro/litre for petrol, 1,693 for diesel and 0,785 for LPG. Maximum points for green at 1,881 euros/litre, for diesel 1,737 and for LPG 0,820. In more detail, at country level the average price of petrol (again in served mode) ranges from 1,796 euro/litre for Eni to 1,805 for Tamoil (no-logo down to 1,678). For diesel, it went from 1,687 euro/litre of Esso to 1,693 of Tamoil and TotalErg (no-logo down to 1,547). LPG is between 0,755 euro/litre for Eni and 0,785 for IP and Tamoil (no-logo at 0,757).
