Gasoline: now even the political forces and consumer associations are making their opinion heard

The increase in petrol to almost two euros has aroused quite a few controversies on the part of political forces and various consumer associations. Who warn: "Petrol costs more than groceries".

Gasoline: now even the political forces and consumer associations are making their opinion heard

Gasoline reached two euros a liter yesterday.

The discounts during the weekends this summer had lit a small glimmer of hope which unfortunately went out yesterday with the news that petrol has increased again.

This new rise is a historic record for the ordinary network (city road or expressway network). The record has been reached and surpassed in some central regions, in particular Tuscany, while diesel has achieved another record in Southern Italy.

All the fault (so it would seem) of the growth in international prices: oil companies are ever more prompt in raising prices, rather than playing downwards.

Federconsumatori and Adusbef denounce: "The companies are preparing to welcome the few families who have left on their return from vacation". According to the overall estimates of the two associations, the new price increases will cost 420 euros more per family in one year for the purchase and another 348 euros for indirect costs, such as for example the transport of goods. Families will therefore spend a total of 768 euros a year between petrol and other related costs.

According to Coldiretti, a full tank of petrol in a 60-litre car will cost 120 euros. More than when families spend on average for their weekly shopping.

According to the Cis (Confederation of Italian Farmers) “such huge price increases generate a complete upheaval in family budgets. Over the last year, in fact, Italians have had to shell out more for transport, fuel and energy (470 euros per month) than for food (467 euros per month) with an imbalance never seen before towards cars and bills at the expense of the table. In less than a year and a half, agricultural entrepreneurs have seen the price of agricultural diesel double, with an additional cost of around 5.000 euros per company”.

Instead, Faib-Confesercenti tries to tone down the tone, which invites you to evaluate the general picture of the increases on the network of the 24 national plants: "Tuscany is undoubtedly the most exposed because it has a higher excise duty due to the flood of the last year. In reality, in the Italian average, petrol reaches 1,920 euros per liter at most, without however considering that the price is recorded on working days when no oil company applies the discounts, all concentrated on the weekend".

The latest surge in petrol and diesel is pushing political forces in favor of citizens to take the field, putting pressure on the executive: the Popolo della Libertà forcefully urges the government to intervene to sterilize the marginal VAT rate which multiplies the fuel price. Some parliamentarians of the PDL write in a note: "the increase of more than two euros per liter is unacceptable both for the effect of the accounts on families and for the impact on the costs of the manufacturing system". Even the Democratic Party is pushing for Minister Passera to call the oilmen to get clarifications: "with these prices it seems unrealistic to talk about a recovery since fuels are the basis of the production of many goods and their transport".
