THE CAUSES OF THE INCREASES

The sharp rise in fuel prices is caused by the earthquake that hit energy, with oil and gas costs on a roller coaster for days. Yesterday, the Russian president intervened to try to appease investors' spirits Vladimir Putin. After pointing the finger at "Europe's mistakes", the Kremlin's number one opened up the possibility of increase gas supplies towards Europe, while Russian Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin said OPEC+ should not allow the market to "overheat". We recall that Russia is one of the main gas suppliers for Europe, accused by EU politicians of not having significantly increased supplies to respond to increased demand. Concerns about inventories continue. In Europe natural gas reserves are at a minimum historic for 8 years, while consumption increases with the drop in temperatures and industrial production rises, trying to put the collapse due to the pandemic behind it. Without adequate countermeasures, therefore, Europe could soon find itself in great difficulty.

Putin's words were followed by an immediate reaction from the markets. After the gallop of the previous days, i oil prices they retreated and at 12.30 today Brent is trading at 79,91 dollars a barrel (-1,44%), while US WTI is trading down by 1,95% to 75.92 dollars a barrel. Down too i gas prices which puts the surge of recent days behind it and travels in sharp decline. In detail, Henry Hub Natural gas futures are down 4,5% to 5,42 dollars per million Btu, while the Dutch ICE futures TTF is down 16% to 90,3 euros per megaWatt per hour and the English ICE NPB by 8% at 244 pence.
