Bentivogli with “Fire the bosses”, Sapelli on Eni and Garattini with “Prevention is revolution”: 3 books to read

There are books and books but there are three that are absolutely not to be missed. One is of Marco Bentivogli, the second is of Julius Sapelli and the third is of Silvio Garattini.

The new book by Marco Bentivogli, the former secretary of the metalworkers of the Fim-Cisl and today coordinator of the civic and independent start-up Base Italia, will be in bookstores from Tuesday 14 November and the title is already a program: "Fire the bosses. How bosses ruined work”, published by Rizzoli. “It is an attack on the most insidious forms of modern paternalism. Those in which an equal attitude is pretended, we call each other "you" and flaunt an open and inclusive vision, but when we get to the point, the exercise of power, of "subordination", is still the same as it was in the past. Actually, worse: less sincere. Today we need audacity: an indispensable virtue to rebuild the leadership groups that our country urgently needs." An unconventional and original book.

"The company, the soul and the forms. Writings about Eni and for Eni” is instead a book by Giulio Sapelli published by Il Mulino which concerns Eni and its world which the historian of ideas has deeply loved and of which he has a profound knowledge like few others. From the commitment to restarting Italy made in the post-war period by Enrico Mattei to the formation of corporate culture, the themes reviewed by Sapelli reconstruct, piece by piece, the growth and evolution of a large Italian entrepreneurial reality such as Eni. The book represents a historical document written by those who were able to directly and intensely experience Eni's corporate culture and values, which originate from its legendary founder, Enrico Mattei, and which are still solid and well-rooted even today.

In the end "Prevention is revolution. To live better and longer” is the new book, published by Il Mulino, by the famous pharmacologist and oncologist Silvio Garattini, founder and now president of the Mario Negri Institute of Pharmacological Research in Milan. “It is never too late – writes Garattini – to build good habits and increase the chances of a long and healthy life”. Prevention really means “living longer and free from diseases. But it also means fighting inequalities, especially economic ones, caring for the environment, school and university education, saving for the national health system in favor of greater resources for accessible and free health for all. But all this requires a true cultural revolution” writes Garattini.

Three books to read immediately without missing a page.
