Beauty and wellness, it's booming: 6 more businesses

Italians are showing more and more attention to beauty and well-being. In fact, companies in the sector have grown by 4% in the last five years, thanks above all to the substantial increase in gyms e wellness centers (almost 12% more in both cases), beauty salons (+15%) and manicure and pedicure services, which increased from 1.206 to 1.747 (+46%).

To show it is the elaboration of Unioncamere-Infocamere, starting from the data of the Business Register as at 30 June last, compared with the same period of 2012.

If the passion for fitness, the attention to the image or the refinement of a trendy nail art are the basis of the growth of the personal care sector in the period, the real "hard core" of the sector, which counts at the end of June over 153 businesses, is represented by barber and hairdressing salons, an area in which 104 businesses operate, equal to 68% of the total.

Lombardy is the region where businesses that deal with personal care are most widespread: 26 registered businesses, with significant increases in both gyms and manicure and pedicure services. Lazio (almost 15) and Veneto (over 13) follow at a distance. In terms of percentage change in the five years considered, however, Lazio is in first place (+9,7%), followed by Sardinia (+7,6%), Friuli Venezia-Giulia and Calabria (+5,9, 5,8% both), then from Tuscany (+XNUMX%).

At the provincial level, the primacy in terms of number of companies in the sector goes to Rome, where the beauty industry has almost 11 businesses, followed by Milan (over 8) and Naples (more than 6). The three provinces are also at the top of the ranking in terms of increase in activities belonging to this sector between 2012 and 2017: +977 in Rome, thanks above all to the spread of barber and hairdressing salons (+824); +583 in Milan and +193 in Naples, by virtue, in particular, of the increase in beauty institutes (+342 and +151 respectively).

Even in the smallest provincial realities, however, citizens can now count on a growing network of activities specialized in wellness. For example, the Pisans have almost 11% more companies available than in June 2012, the Frosinones 10,3% and the Cagliaritans 10%. Increases close to 10% affect, in addition to the province of the capital, also those of Pordenone, Latina, Sassari, Benevento.
