Midway move for the European Central Bank. The new banking supervisor will remain in the Eurotower, given the lack of space in the new headquarters, the gleaming glass and concrete towers east of Frankfurt, ready by mid-2014.
The old tower, made famous by the large euro symbol placed in the square in front of it, will continue to be rented to the approximately one thousand new officials who will monitor the state of health of the balance sheets of the main credit institutions in the eurozone within a year.
The new authority will perhaps be led by Daniéle Nouy, currently responsible for the supervision of French banks and insurance companies, or by his Dutch counterpart Jan Sijbrand.
