ECB: yesterday new record for bank deposits, reached the maximum of the last 14 months

Yesterday banks deposited 197 billion euros with the ECB, marking a new high in 2011 and the highest peak in the last 14 months. The European Central Bank rates these overnight deposits at an annual rate of 0,75%. Yesterday's record is an important indicator of growing concerns over the sovereign debt crisis and the end of the ECB's reserve reserve period. Also yesterday, requests for marginal loans to the European central bank reached 82 million euros, well above the 20 million of the previous session last Friday. Tomorrow, the day on which a one-month loan of 75,8 billion euros will expire, the ECB will lend 54,2 billion to the various institutions.
