ECB: it is a record for overnight deposits

Risk continues to dominate European banks. Overnight deposits by lenders at the European Central Bank (ECB) hit a new record on Friday settling at 288,429 billion euros. It is the highest value of 2011 and the trend seems to be that of an increase, given that overnight deposits had also recorded 275,226 billion euros on Thursday.

These sums are dangerously close to the level recorded on 6 November 2008, after the crash of the US investment bank Lehman Brothes: 297,424 billion deposited overnight by European banks with the ECB.
