Germany attacks, Mario Draghi responds. Today, during a closed-door hearing in the European Parliament, the president of the ECB sent a clear message to the German hawks: purchases by the Eurotower of sovereign bonds "up to three years do not constitute monetary financing to the ”. This was reported by parliamentary sources present at the appointment, explaining that - according to Draghi - a loan of a similar duration would have too short a life to be considered "money creation".

Furthermore, the purchases of government bonds on the secondary market by the ECB would respect "interpretations of the treaties". According to the reconstructions, the words of the Italian banker would have come in reply to the objections of two German parliamentarians. However, the Berlin Government does not back down on this point and continues to say that it is against it, as reaffirmed today by the spokesman of the Executive, Steffen Seibert.
