ECB: loans to businesses and households down, -0,9% in January

According to data released by the ECB, loans to businesses and households fell in January, by 0,9% on an annual basis – The trend is worsening compared to December – The general monetary aggregate M3 is slightly up.

ECB: loans to businesses and households down, -0,9% in January

The ECB's monthly report on monetary aggregates reveals a deterioration in loans to businesses and households in January, with a decrease of 0,9% year on year which follows -0,7% per cent in December and minus 0,8% in November.

The same goes for the data adjusted for the effects of restructurings and securitisations: in this case, loans to the private sector recorded -0,4% in January against -0,2% in December and -0,5% of November.

The general monetary aggregate M3 rose slightly, which in January recorded +3,5% on an annual basis, from +3,4% in December.
