ECB: 129 supervised banks, 15 of which are Italian

The ECB has announced the new list of banks of significant importance for the European financial system and therefore subject to direct supervision by the Eurotower. The number rises by 6 to 129 institutes, the result of 8 additions and 2 eliminations.

The patrol of Italian banks subject to direct supervision is 15 units: these are Banca Carige, Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, Banco Popolare, Banca Popolare dell'Emilia Romagna (it had been removed together with Creval and is now part of list), Banca Popolare di Milano, Banca Popolare di Sondrio, Banca Popolare di Vicenza, Barclays Italia, Credito Emiliano, Iccrea Holding, Intesa Sanpaolo, Mediobanca, Unicredit, Unione di Banche Italiane and Veneto Banca.

As indicated in a statement, the ECB will begin direct supervision of the eight new banks between January 1 and February 1, depending on when the decision on the new status of the institution in question was taken.
