Bayer prepares a maxi-offer for Monsanto

According to Bloomberg, the German giant is studying the purchase of the US agrochemical multinational, valued at around 40 billion – Bayer slips on the Stock Exchange, Monsanto flies to Wall Street.

Bayer could launch an offer to purchase Monsanto. The indiscretion was disclosed by Bloomberg, according to which the German group is seriously evaluating the purchase of the US agrochemical multinational, including the methods of financing and any divestments to be made to carry out the operation.

The two companies have not yet commented, but if the transaction goes through it could shake the entire industry, given the size of the two groups: Bayer has a market capitalization of 84 billion euros and Monsanto of 40 billion. Furthermore, the agrochemical sector is going through a moment of particular fervour, as demonstrated by the purchase of Syngenta by ChemChima and the merger in progress between Dow Chemical and DuPont.

The rumors about this maxi-operation have had opposite effects on the titles of the companies. Yesterday Bayer closed with a heavy loss in Frankfurt, and even today the stock dropped by more than half a percentage point. Monsanto, on the other hand, gained 8,9% on Wall Street.
