Bayer is in exclusive talks with BASF for the full sale of its vegetable seed business. This was announced by the German group saying it is confident that, through this operation, will meet the concerns of the European Commission, which froze the merger with the American Monsanto for possible antitrust violations. Already last October, just to facilitate the operation, Bayer had sold the agrochemical activities to BASF for a figure close to 6 billion.
The takeover bid launched by the Leverkusen company on Monsanto is the largest offer on an American company from abroad: the cash takeover, worth 66 billion, is the richest in the history of the world stock exchanges. “We are thinking about a possible conclusion in the second quarter of 2018,” he recently said the managing director of Bayer, Werner Baumann. “Our goal now is to be able to close the deal in the second quarter of 2018.”
