Basketball, Coppa Italia: Sassari beats Siena and wins the first trophy in its history

That's right, Sassari beats Siena 80-73 and conquers the 38th edition of the Italian Cup, placing the first trophy in its history on the showcase and making an entire region celebrate. Deserved victory for Dinamo, which came at the end of a game they conducted right from the start, in which they even went up +17 at half-time, managing to keep Montepaschi at a safe distance in their final comeback attempt. Fantastic evening for Sacchetti's line-up, followed at the Assago Forum by more than 500 fans, who after so many compliments and a good game, finally achieved real joy, putting an end to Siena's streak of five consecutive triumphs in the Italian Cup (which this event had not lost in 17 races).

A match managed by a great team for Dinamo, who presented themselves in this Italian Cup certainly not in the best way (6 defeats in the last 8 in the championship) and with less certainties than a few months ago, but who reached yesterday's final very excited after having ousted the big favorite Milan in the quarterfinals and then overcoming an excellent Reggio Emilia in the semifinals (capable of throwing Cantù out). Three perfect days for the blue-and-white line-up, which highlighted its singles (Travis Diener elected best player of the tournament, cousin Drake, the true killer of Milan and Calebb Green super in the decisive first half last night), but above all he demonstrated the value of a united and determined group, built in recent years thanks to a project that seeks to involve the whole of Sardinia, a serious and ambitious project, and since yesterday also a winner.

Celebrated Sassari, however, we must take our hats off to the losers, that Siena that really doesn't want to stop winning and that even in a difficult year like this, due to the well-known corporate problems, proves to be a serious and competitive team, certainly to be admired . Arriving at this appointment certainly not as a favourite, in the matches that count the team of the past years seemed to return, first overcoming Rome with great authority and then the leaders of the championship Brindisi, which in the quarterfinals had done its part by eliminating Venice. Even in the final, where it didn't play like in the previous two matches, in the end Mens Sana showed all its pride as reigning champion on the parquet, which even brought it up to -3, before the new extension in Sassari. It could have been a victory with perhaps greater flavor and value than the many triumphs of recent years (precisely due to the current condition of the club), however this time Siena had to give way and probably in the near future may not have many other opportunities to return to enrich his bulletin board, but for the moment this group should only be applauded.

The one who didn't hear applause was Milan, the great disappointment of these three days of basketball, the formation that was almost forced to win this first trophy of the season, both for the strength of its roster and for the great moment of form and also because he had the opportunity to celebrate on his pitch in front of his fans. Instead, the big favorite came out immediately, in an incredible way, betraying all expectations and giving her fans yet another disappointment, this time really burning and almost inexplicable. Even if EA7 will have to deal with this bad blow, it still remains the absolute candidate to sew the Italian flag at the end of the season, but the Italian Cup, which gave the public three days of good matches, almost all balanced and fought, did understand once again that nothing is taken for granted, every match is a battle and that Hackett and his companions will have to sweat the Scudetto until the end.
