Barilla invests in Italy: 50 million, 60 hires

Barilla returns to invest in Italy. The food group will invest 50 million and will hire 60 employees for the expansion of the pasta sauce factory in Rubbiano, inaugurated in October 2012 by former premier Mario Monti.

The operation was presented as the largest and most efficient sauce production facility in Europe and among the most sustainable in the world. Rubbiano was built with an investment of 40 million; sales have grown by over 45% since then and 75% are destined for export. The plant produces the range of tomato-based sauces and that of pestos and pestos.

It will now also produce all recipes with meat. The project was communicated to the reference unions who "will be directly involved in the discussion process on the development of the production site, which is expected to be completed and operational by 2018". The production capacity will be over 122.000 tons per year.
