Barilla closed 2013 with a turnover of 3,535 billion euros (+2,5% on a like-for-like basis and +1,4% taking into account the exchange rate effect) and for the future aims at aggressive growth in South America and Asia, where he is evaluating partnerships and acquisitions.
The company has developed specific lines of pasta for countries considered strategic for the future development of the company, such as Brazil, Russia e China. The company's performance on the Brazilian market was particularly positive, with business almost doubling in one year. In Italy volumes grew by 1% in 2013.
“We are observing, we are looking at synergistic companies, we are also open to j of product and process, not just ad acquisitions. It is a long journey, we are in no hurry,” he explained Guido Barilla on the sidelines of the presentation of the financial statements, underlining that any operations would concern the pasta and sauces sector and areas such as South America and Asia: “There could be some news in the coming months, we have been working on it for months, there are various options that we are examining. The company has sufficient financial resources to finance an operation”.
Also for this reason the idea of a quotation is not considered: "We don't need to go to the stock exchange”, underlined the managing director Claudio Colzani.
As for the other figures in the budget, theebitda of 2013 amounted to 12% of turnover (compared to 10,8% in 2012). In absolute values, it went from 433 million in 2012 to 425 in 2013. It continued debt reduction: from 688 million in 2011, it had reached 574 million in 2012, down to 347 million in 2013.
