Barcolana in Trieste, Generali presents a green edition

Environment, climate change, diversity are the key themes of Generali's initiatives for the 51st edition of the "Barcolana" Autumn Cup sailing regatta in Trieste, the largest regatta in the world and of which Generali has been presenting partner and main sponsor for over 40 years. Generali actively collaborates to support its growth, in Italy and around the world. During the October days preceding the sailing appointment, Generali will promote two projects that see the sea as the protagonist, “Generali Sea Talk” and “The Human Safety Net reveals the sea to you”.

Sailing as a metaphor for the relationship between man and the environment and as an ideal space for the integration of different cultures and genres will be the themes at the basis of "Generali Sea Talk", the dialogue involving two famous sailors, Dee Caffari and Vicky Song, on Friday 11 October 2019. Caffari and Song will bring their personal testimonies to support diversity as a fundamental element for the formation of an increasingly open and inclusive society and will address the issue of safeguarding the marine ecosystem. The meeting will be hosted in the renovated spaces of Palazzo Berlam, Generali's historic headquarters on the seafront of Trieste and an iconic place for the community, brought back to life thanks to the Generali renovation project entrusted to the internationally renowned architect Mario Bellini.

“The Human Safety Net reveals the sea to you” is the project dedicated to the children of the Villaggio per Crescere in Trieste and to the families of the micro-areas, promoted and implemented by “The Human Safety Net”, Generali's global initiative dedicated to communities. On Sunday 6 October, children and their families will board a motor vessel for a "sailing and sea lesson", which consists of a guided tour of the Gulf of Trieste, from Muggia to Duino and back. The Human Safety Net reveals the sea to you includes dissemination activities on the health of the sea by the WWF and the presence on board of the SVBG "grandfather sailors" who will carry out knot and meteorology workshops.

“Barcolana – commented the president of Generali, Gabriele Galateri of Genola – is a sporting event that increasingly qualifies for attention to current issues. Generali, historically at his side, shares his spirit, always supporting his initiatives and promoting new ones by embracing the changes in society, to offer everyone a fun, positive, sustainable and growth experience". Furthermore, during the days of Barcolana, the public attending the event will be able to visit the Generali stand, set up for the first time in Piazza Unità d'Italia.

Under the banner of promoting a "green" transition it will be the Generali stand, which will propose a vertical vegetable garden and will present large and small contents and activities to explore sustainability issues, in collaboration with the WWF which will be hosted on the stand.
