In 2010, employment in industry and services decreased by 1,4%, in line with the forecasts made by companies at the beginning of the year. This was revealed by the Bank of Italy in the supplement to the statistical bulletin dedicated to the results of the survey on industrial and service companies, according to which the decline was stronger in industry (-2,2 per cent) than in services (-0,6 .2011 per cent). According to forecasts, the decline in employment in industry will continue in 1 with a further decrease of XNUMX%.

In 2010, the number of hours of Redundancy Fund for industrial companies with a number of employees greater than or equal to 50 decreased compared to the previous year, from 9,2% to 6,1% of the hours actually worked, remaining on values historically high. Turnover in real terms increased by 1,1%. The growth of companies in the industrial sector (+3,5%) was offset by the decline in the tertiary sector (-1,1%). Compared to 2009, the share of companies making a profit increased (from 53 to 57,8%) and that of companies making a loss decreased (from 30,5 to 25,5%). Gross fixed investments increased by 3,5% in 2010 (0,7% in industry, 6,8% in services). For 2011, on the other hand, a slight drop in investments is foreseen (-0,9%).

The majority of firms report an increase in self-financing, for the first time after two years, as well as a slight increase in recourse to bank borrowing. The judgments of companies of deterioration of debt conditions between the first and second half of 2010 prevail (19% of companies report a worsening, against 7,7% who report an improvement).
