Bank of Italy raises the alarm: "Opportunities for young people continue to decrease"

For young Italians, especially in the South, opportunities continue to decrease, e access to work becomes a needle whose eye is getting narrower and more impervious every day, at least standing to the alarm raised by Bank of Italy in the study "Regional economies", an analysis of youth work in Italy, presented today.

In a dramatic framework, in which "Employment opportunities for younger age groups continue to deterioratei in all regions”, the situation in the South stands out in the negative, as mentioned, where “iThe unemployment rate of people under 30 is more than double the overall rate".

The regional differences in terms of employment naturally reflect the similar differences in terms of growth in the various areas of the country. In a year of very weak growth for Italy (0,4%), GDP remained unchanged in the South (0,0%) and in the Center (0,1%), while the North West (0,6%) and above all the North East (0,9%) fared better.

One of the obvious consequences of the weakness in employment and wages, in the South, it is "the particularly unfavorable trend in consumption" also by virtue of the decline in the "driving force of foreign demand". In the North, on the other hand, «demand held up more, with a much more lively employment dynamic than the national average.

According to the Bank of Italy study, then, “the main contributor to growth, thanks to the greater opening to foreign markets”, he came from exports.
