Bank of Italy: Inail buys shares from Inps and rises to 2,7%

Inail has purchased 6.000 shares owned by INPS for the price of 150.000.000 euros. The transaction leads Inail to hold a total of 2,7% of the share capital of the Bank of Italy, while the share of Inps drops to 3%.

INPS and Inail have signed an agreement for the transfer of 6.000 shares of Banca d'Italia, owned by INPS, at the unit price of 25.000 euros per share, a value at which shares have also recently been transferred between private operators.

The transaction was carried out on the basis of the joint positive opinion of the State General Accounting Office and the Treasury Department, as part of the authorization to hold shares in the Bank of Italy for a maximum number of 9.000.

The new legislation – pursuant to art. 4, paragraph 5, of the decree law 30 November 2013 n. 133, converted with amendments by law 29 January 2014, n. 5 – identifies the maximum holding limit of shares in the Bank of Italy as 3% of the share capital and shareholders who exceed this limit are obliged to proceed with the sale of the excess shares.

Since INAIL held only 0,7% of the Central Bank's share capital, equal to 2.000 quotas, the Institute was able to purchase the 6.000 excess quotas owned by INPS. In full compliance with the limits established by the new legislation, the operation leads Inail to hold a total of 8.000 shares, and INPS to hold 9.000 shares, equal respectively to 2,7% and 3% of the share capital of via Nazionale .
