Bankitalia, the new site is online: via Nazionale focuses on social and mobile

Change of software, optimization for smartphones and tablets, enhancement of sharing on social networks and improvement of the internal search engine: this is how the Central Bank's website changes – General Manager Salvatore Rossi: "Let's think of an app dedicated to statistics".

“It may seem like we've done our makeup again, but we haven't. This is a completely new product: we have not only changed the graphics, but the whole technological structure”. With these words Salvatore Rossi, general manager of the Bank of Italy, presented the new website of the central bank, online from today (www.bancaditalia.it).

"We have also enriched the contents - explained Rossi at the press conference in via Nazionale -, not only by increasing the available documents, but also by intervening on those already published, in order to make their language more usable".

At an IT level, however, the Bankitalia website has changed mainly under four aspects: new software, optimization for smartphones and tablets, enhancement of sharing on social networks and improvement of the internal search engine, "which didn't work very well before - admitted Rossi – while today it is aligned with international standards”.

As for the organization of the page, the sections of the site have been simplified and reduced to six (who we are, tasks, services to citizens, publications, statistics and media), while the multimedia and focus areas can be accessed from the lower part of the home page , as well as the agenda listing future and past appointments of the Central Bank.

The Director General then hinted that further innovations will be possible in the future: “We are tempted to open a window for interactivity – he explained -, but it is a commitment which we need to reflect on, because it would require the work of an entire editorial board".

More complex, but not impossible, is the creation of a web press review of the most interesting comments and analyses: "It would perhaps be presumptuous on our part - said Rossi -, but we'll think about it".

Finally, it is likely that sooner or later Palazzo Koch will also land in the world of applications: “We thought above all of statistics, which are among our most requested contents – concluded the general manager -. I think an app dedicated only to this data could help”.
