Bank of Italy, Fitch: no benefit for the banks' capital from share revaluation

According to the rating agency, the revaluation of Bankitalia's shares will not help to increase the base capital of the banks – The rules prevent credit institutions from including these profits in the calculation of the balance sheet figures at the end of 2013.

La revaluation of quotas that Italian banks hold in the Bank of Italy "will not help to increase the regulatory base capital in view of the Asset Quality Review that the ECB will carry out this year".

He states it Fitch in a statement in which the agency adds that "it remains unclear when these revaluations will feed into regulatory capital calculations", given that current regulations prevent banks from including these profits in the calculation of the end-2013 capital data.

Therefore, according to Fitch, these capital gains will not lead to "any immediate increase in the regulatory capital of banks" , in the event that capital shortfalls emerge following the examination by the ECB.
