Bank of Italy closes another 22 branches by 2018

The Bank of Italy plans to close 22 branches within three years. The Radiocor agency writes it, specifying that it is a plan launched independently and clearly contested by the internal unions, worried about the future of the institution.

In a discussion table with the Bank that lasted over a year, the unions presented various proposals on potential new 'jobs' for the staff of via Nazionale, above all in view of the reform of the public administration, but all the ideas remained unheard.

After the cut in the salaries of the Directorate decided in November, Palazzo Koch has therefore decided to go ahead alone with the new plan which concerns 360 employees out of a total of 7. When fully operational, Bankitalia will have a network of 39 branches.

The first cut of the network was launched by Mario Draghi in 2008 and led to the closure of 39 branches from the original 97 with a structural saving of 80 million per year when fully operational.
