Bank of Italy: record bad bank loans in December, loans to households and businesses down

In December 2013, funding by banks suffered a setback – According to data from the Bank of Italy, the annual growth rate of non-performing loans was 24,6 per cent (22,7 per cent in November ) – Loans to households and businesses are also down.

Record bad debts in December 2013. According to Bank of Italy data, the annual growth rate of bad debts was 24,6 per cent (22,7% in November).

Also in December, the annual growth rate of private sector deposits was 2,3 per cent (6,1% in November). Loans to the private sector recorded a year-on-year contraction of 3,8 percent (-4,3% in November).

Loans to households fell by 1,2% over twelve months (-1,5% in the previous month); those to non-financial companies decreased, again on an annual basis, by 5,3 per cent (-6% in November).

Bond funding decreased by 8,3 per cent over twelve months (-7,3% in November).
