Ultra broadband: Enel meets Metroweb, while the discussion with Telecom Italia continues

The energy giant allegedly expressed its interest to Metroweb during a meeting – The confrontation between Metroweb and Telecom Italia is in the final stages – The hypothesis of Cdp's entry into Telecom Italia is reborn.

Metroweb at the center of Enel's attention. As reported by Radiocor, the top management of the energy giant would have met the managers of Metroweb in order to express their interest.

In the meantime, however, the relationship between the company active in the telecommunications sector and Telecom Italia continues. In the first days of February, the competent authorities should view the plan of the two companies aimed at bringing optical fiber to at least 250 cities.

The project revolves around a corporate vehicle, identified in Metroweb Sviluppo where, alongside the CDP present through FSI, Telecom Italia would enter.

Currently Metroweb, of which F2i with 53,8% and FSI with 46,2% are shareholders, controls 100% of Metroweb Sviluppo. In the event that the project were to be successful, Metroweb Milano, the operating company that brought optical fiber to the Lombard capital, would therefore be excluded.

However, doubts remain about the governance of the corporate vehicle, but the aim would seem to be to create an instrument which, on the one hand, is able to create the ultra-broadband network, and on the other, guarantees equal access to alternative operators. In addition, the hypothesis relating to the entry of Cdp into Telecom Italia is being considered.
