Banco Bpm: 1 million euros to the territories affected by the earthquake

The result of a collection promptly launched among customers and employees of the former Banco Popolare, now Banco Bpm, to which over 20 people have joined, the resources were made available for projects aimed at rebuilding the urban, social and economic fabric of the communities which, between the Marches and Lazio, have been seriously injured by the seismic events.

The funds that Banco Bpm donated to support the territories and populations hard hit by the earthquake that hit central Italy in 2016 amount to over one million euros.

The construction of the first Pavilion of the Multipurpose Center of Norcia, inaugurated a few days ago, was, in order of time, the last intervention carried out by Banco Bom in this area. Built thanks to the funds raised by the "Aid immediately" initiative, promoted by Corriere della Sera and TgLa7, based on a project by the architect Stefano Boeri, the first of four structures that will rise next to each other, creating a new square, the building was conceived as control room for emergencies and place of reception for the population in case of tremors: today, with its 600 square meters, it is also the new municipal operations center and a space available to citizens for events and cultural initiatives. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Mayor Nicola Alemanno and the representatives of the institutions involved expressed their full recognition for the donors who made the start of reconstruction possible.

Thanks to the same fundraising, Banco Bpm and Cesvi, in collaboration with Coldiretti, signed an agreement in May to support the farms of Amatrice specialized in the production and sale of milk, making available to them the containers intended to house the essential to allow farmers to carry on their activities in ideal hygienic-sanitary conditions. Last March, the Bank also supported the diocese of Ascoli Piceno in the restructuring and redevelopment of the Sant'Emidio shelter hit by the violent tremors seismic events of last August and October. The demanding work of recovery of the structure, still in progress, has the objective of returning the Sant'Emidio house to the community of Valnerina, to the elderly and to people in a state of temporary difficulty.

The contribution that was made available for the purchase of furniture and technological tools for the classrooms is intended for the Foligno 2 Comprehensive Institute. The works on the educational center, a reference point for about one thousand two hundred students, are being carried out by the Civil Protection and completion is expected by 2017.

Within the framework of the interventions put in place in favor of the communities there is also the recent liberal donation destined to the All Colors of the World Onlus Association, which has been involved since 1995 in assisting people with disabilities in the Valnerina area. The object of the disbursement is the preparation of a new temporary site, the purchase of a minibus and the recovery and restoration of the Norcia site which was badly damaged by the earthquakes in August and October.

These initiatives, made possible by the generosity of Banco BPM's customers and employees, include the sponsorship by Banca Popolare di Milano of an Actionaid project in favor of the Arquata del Tronto community aimed at providing school support to 80 children and their families .

This is a set of concrete actions that demonstrate how the deep-rooted attention to the territory continues to inspire the new Banco Bpm reality which in these first six months of activity has been pursuing a mission aimed at creating value for all stakeholders and for local communities.
