Banks, Tabacci: no distrust Boschi, but why Etruria in Popolari reform?

The president of the Democratic Center in the debate in the Chamber on the no-confidence motion against Boschia raised the problem of the adequacy of Banca Popolare dell'Etruria and Lazio in the reform of the Popolari: “The institute was close to receivership. Government was superficial, doubts about Consob and Bank of Italy"

Banks, Tabacci: no distrust Boschi, but why Etruria in Popolari reform?

"I am against individual no-confidence motions. If there is a political responsibility, it belongs to the government in its collegiality.

The distrust in Minister Boschi is clearly instrumental. And his speech today was flawless ”.

He said so Bruno Tabacci speaking in the Chamber for the "Perl'Italia - Centro Democratico" group on the no-confidence motion against Minister Boschi.

“Among other things, with regard to conflicts of interest in the last few decades, he added – Silvio Berlusconi and not Piersilvio have been at the helm of the country for a long time. Avoiding the failure of the four banks was good. Just the intervention of the government of 22 November last.

But there were some inadequacies and superficialities at the beginning of the year. The entire government was not aware of it: on 24 January 2015, the government approved the reform of cooperative banks, a correct reform that has been awaited for years. But the movements on the Stock Exchange in the Popolari in the week preceding the decree were defined by Consob as "strange", with growth in particular in the Popolare dell'Etruria share of 65%. But shouldn't Consob have investigated these strange movements? What have you been doing these months?

Then – continued Tabacci – on 11 February 2015, only 18 days after the reform of the Popolari, the Ministry of the Economy, on a proposal from the Bank of Italy, dissolved the administrative and control bodies of Popolare dell'Etruria and placed it in extraordinary administration. At the same time, Consob suspended the stock. The inspection had been launched in November 2014 by Bank of Italy, but already in 2013 the Bank of Italy had inspected Etruria and asked the bank to find a partner to buy it. In other words, if the government had been informed, or had been adequately informed, it would have avoided including the Banca dell'Etruria in the decree of January 2015. This is the point and this is the superficial element of the whole government. Furthermore, Cantone may be fine for the arbitration, even if Cantone cannot do everything. But if Consob and the Bank of Italy have highlighted discrepancies in their action, it is necessary to intervene on that point to make controls more effective. And in Europe we need to complete the banking union with the introduction of deposit guarantees. This must be done concretely. So let's have the parliamentary inquiry commission with real investigative powers as soon as possible to complete the legislative action started in 2004-2005 which unfortunately does not have the desired results. This is a position of seriousness. Involving Minister Boschi is completely instrumental and raises a feeling of great annoyance. Our trust is total”, concluded Tabacci.
