Banks, Mattarella: "Serious episodes: ascertain responsibilities and respect responsibilities"

The Head of State, Sergio Mattarella, did not mince words in his speech addressed today to the Higher State offices for the traditional end-of-year greetings.

The President of the Republic intervened on the crisis of the 4 banks which is spreading fear and concern among savers especially in view of the introduction of the bail-in from next January 100st which will no longer make the State pay and therefore all the innocent taxpayers but directly to shareholders, bondholders and account holders over XNUMX euros in the event of a bank's instability.

According to Mattarella, in the crisis of the 4 banks, which is dominating the public scene and not just the financial one, "serious episodes" have occurred which have damaged savers and which require better "protection" of savings in the future but which also require "rigorous checks ” on the responsibilities which resulted in damages for savers.

In ascertaining responsibilities, the President of the Republic has discreetly sent a signal of prudence to the Government so that it does not end up, albeit indirectly, by delegitimizing Consob and the Bank of Italy arguing that the ascertainment of responsibilities for the errors in the bank crisis must be conducted in the respect for "skills, without overlapping roles" and "without conflicts" between the various institutions in the field.
