What happened to Carige, the Italian bank most loved by Ligurians? Why does he again need to ask shareholders for money in 2017 for the third time in four years? The answer to this and other questions is given by Carlotta Scozzari, a true Ligurian and financial journalist, in the ebook “Banche in non-performing banks. The true story of Carige di Genova”, published with goWare and Epoké and also available in paper version.

To trace all the stages of the story, just on the eve of yet another capital increase, with an issue of new shares for 560 million euros, scheduled for the end of September, the book starts from the story of the former chairman of Carige, Giovanni Berneschi , who was sentenced in the first instance by the court of Genoa last February to eight years and two months for fraud and criminal conspiracy. The sentence of the Genoese judges, quoted in the book, summarizes: "The overall picture that has emerged is a real hidden business committee which, for years, has promoted real estate transactions from which it has drawn a constant and enormous profit, channeled foreign accounts, impoverishing the companies of the Carige group and the bank itself, used in many cases also to finance the purchase by real estate developers”.
