Banks, Ecofin: final ok to the new rules on saving and resolution

Ecofin has formally adopted the rules on bank rescue and resolution, which give national authorities common powers and tools to prevent and deal with bankruptcies in an orderly way, preserving the essential operations of institutions and minimizing the exposure of contributors to losses.

The bail-in rules, i.e. the priority participation of bank shareholders and creditors in interventions, will enter into force on 2016 January 31. States have until 2014 December XNUMX to transpose the rules into national legislation.
