Banks and post offices: cash withdrawals at risk on 1 and 2 August

Inconvenience ahead for those who want to withdraw cash from ATMs and postal machines Thursday 1 and Friday 2 August, that is probably close to the departure for the holidays. While it is true that too for those going abroad it is possible to use debit and credit cards, those who instead want to withdraw some money in cash will have to face the national strike of armored personnel carriers, called to request the renewal of the contract, which has been stopped for 3 and a half years, and which concerns 100 workers in the sector. The agitation could jeopardize the availability of cash in some branches and beyond the possible problems for travellers, pensioners will pay the price, given that the pension is credited to the account on the first day of the month.

Some banks - such as Intesa Sanpaolo - have notified customers by email. “Cash withdrawals may not be available,” a statement read. "The banks are organizing themselves to have all the availability", reassures Gianfranco Torriero, deputy general manager of Abi. “They are authorized to use the available banknotes. And in any case, users can organize themselves in time”. Poste for its part, starting from Monday morning in its offices, customers displayed the following notice: “The supply of cash may not be regular. We apologize for the inconveniences." However, the February precedent bodes well: the outages were minimal. This time, however, the first summer exodus is also involved.

"We have been trying to avert the strike since June, but the negotiation has not been unlocked", says Sandro Pagaria, national manager of Filcams CGIL. "The contract has expired for 43 months and the employer counterparts are unable to find a synthesis between them". The reference is to Confcommercio, LegaCoop, Confimprese and the others: “We would like the economic treatment of armed and non-armed vigilantes to be equalized. And strengthen safeguards for workers. We also ask the Deputy Prime Ministers Salvini and Di Maio to take an active part. Because this sector thrives on contracts. And the tenders at the lowest price, even with the public sector, are bringing it to its knees".
