Banks, Commission of Inquiry: Tuesday back to Mps

There is no need for an American confrontation between Barbagallo and Apponi: the differences between Bankitalia and Consob on the Veneto banks are now clear but the aftermath of the clash between the two Authorities remains - The parliamentary inquiry commission is convened again for Tuesday: on the table the Montepaschi file

Banks, Commission of Inquiry: Tuesday back to Mps

Filed the Veneto, we start again from Siena. Thursday in the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the banking system they were heard for the second time Carmelo Barbagallo, head of the banking and financial supervision department of the Bank of Italy, e Angelo Apponi, director general of Consob.

Initially, an American confrontation between the two was envisaged, with the aim of clarifying the contradictions that emerged during the first hearings of Barbagallo and Apponi on the controls in Popolare di Vicenza and Veneto Banca.

However, after having once again listened individually to Barbagallo and Apponi, the president of the Commission, Pier Ferdinando Casini, recognized that there is a divergence of interpretation between Bankitalia and Consob on some issues, but not such a contrast as to make a further clarification indispensable during the hearing joint.

“No discrepancies about the facts have emerged – Casini explained – but different assessments have emerged. Since the comparison presupposes not an evaluation disagreement, but a disagreement on facts and circumstances, I do not think I should use this tool.

Consequently, next Tuesday the Commission will meet again to deal with another dossier: that of Monte dei Paschi di Siena.
