Banks: 37 CCBs with high risk credits, here's what they are

Although they are characterized by greater solidity than national commercial banks, one CCB out of ten has non-performing loans above the threshold of 20% of the portfolio, a peculiarity that could create quite a few problems. Here are the cooperative credit banks most at risk.

Banks: 37 CCBs with high risk credits, here's what they are

Not all CCBs are the same. Faced with the undoubted dynamism of some cooperative credit banks (especially in Tuscany and Trentino), there is no shortage of CCBs in obvious trouble and it is no coincidence that the government's reform measure of the entire sector is expected within days. There are almost forty CCBs with high risk loans.

Going deeper into the matter, it turns out that one out of ten cooperative banks in Italy has non-performing loans above 20% of the portfolio. The exact number is 37 units out of a total of 368 mutual banks active in our country.

The data processed by "Sole 24 Ore" on the 2014 financial statements of the mutual banks on the basis of the analysis conducted by the Mediobanca Research Department leave no room for doubt.

Although the 20% level is considered a critical threshold, there are those who have gone much further. The record for risky loans belongs to the Cassa rural and artisan of Camerano, with a rate of 37,9%. Second place in the standings for Banca di Teramo with 32,9%. Cassa di Pinzolo follows with 26,3%.

It is therefore not difficult to understand that it would take very little to cause losses that could have a significant impact on capital with all the consequences that the entry into force of the bail-in entails for shareholders and creditors.
