Bancari: Sabatini (Abi), yes to the contract but not at all costs

“Our goal is to get to national contract but not at all costs”. A clear message what the director general of the Abi, the Italian Banking Association, John Sabatini addressed to the trade unions, in an interview with Corriere della Sera. For Sabatini, the negotiation on renewal of the bank contract it will have to take into account the two epochal changes that are involving the credit sector: the digital revolution and the banking union.

"We need a contract compatible with the context", says Sabatini, clarifying that Abi is also willing to do it quickly but on condition that it is "compatible with the new way of doing banking". On the delicate subject of renewal of the contract of the banking, canceled by Abi on December 31st, the general manager Sabatini places the accent on two topics: increases and youth employment.

"Increases in labor costs cannot be foreseen", says Sabatini, underlining how the banks have a "desperate need to recover productivity". The theme of the increase in the cost of labour, for Sabatini, is closely interconnected with the issue of youth employment. "To create opportunities for young people too - says Sabatini - increases in wages cannot be an automatism linked to seniority". For the director general of the credit association "we need a contract that protects the employment of young people but offers flexibility and does not increase the cost of labour".
