Bank of England, the candidate for the throne is Canadian

According to the Financial Times, the Institute would have informally probed Mark Carney's willingness to become Her Majesty's central banker next year – Today the candidate already holds the same role, but in Canada, where he was born.

Bank of England, the candidate for the throne is Canadian

A Canadian in London? Perhaps. And it would be the first time in more than three centuries. The very powerful Bank of England is starting to look for candidates for the succession to the throne of Sir Mervyn King (64 years old), central banker now in office since 2003. The new investiture is still a year away, but it seems that the British are willing to look beyond the border to elect the new financial ruler. It would be a sensational break with tradition: so far, the 119 governors of the central institute have always been full-blooded Britons.

According to the Financial Times, the Bank would have probed (informally, of course) the availability of the 47-year-old Mark Carney. Distinguishing marks: he was born on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean and since 2008 he has been Canada's central banker to earn a living (who has denied the rumors of the FT).

Of course, it will be said, it is still the Commonwealth. But the truth is that Carney he is much more "British" than the average Canadian. In addition to having studied economics at the prestigious Nuffield College in Oxford, King's possible successor also has a wife born in his Majesty's reign. If that weren't enough, the Canadian banker juggles the streets of London very well, where he has already worked, even though at the time he was enlisted in the troops of the very American Goldman Sachs.

As for the international curriculum, Carney has nothing to envy to anyone. In addition to the Canadian Central Bank, today you also chair the Financial Stability Forum, where you took over from Mario Draghi. Waiting for Sir King's retirement.
