The first Internet purchase with a Bancomat/Pagobancomat card in Italy was made today at Banca del Piemonte, the pilot issuer of the Bancomat Consortium. In particular, the BP Banca del Piemonte Virtual Internet Banking service will allow the customer to define, in total autonomy, which card to activate and limit the amount that can be spent in e-commerce. Also in Italy, e-commerce is becoming one of the main purchasing options especially among young people. In fact, it has been predicted that this year the national total of online purchases will exceed 16 billion euros, thus marking an increase of 16% compared to 2014, when the number of electronic payment transactions increased by 6%. .

The reduction in interbank fees on credit and debit cards, starting from 9 December next, the date of entry into force of the ceilings established by the European Union to the extent of 0,3%, is destined to contribute to further growth for each credit card transaction and 0,2% for Bancomat or prepaid cards. "The development of card payments is also encouraged by the technological investments of the banks mainly aimed at modernizing customer relationship channels, expanding the multi-channel offer, in particular the virtual and specifically mobile one in the payments sector" he added Camillo Venesio, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Banca del Piemonte, as well as president of the Technical Committee for Payment Systems and ABI Regulations. On the occasion of the Abi conference entitled "Innovation and trust: the keys to unlocking the new payment system", Camillo Venesio underlined, among other things, the value of the growing security of transactions made with debit, credit and prepaid cards, through Pos, Atm and Internet: last year, in Italy, the percentage of frauds fell to 0,013%, thus much lower than the European average.
