Banca Carige, the challenge of the Profumo boys: Modiano against Fiorentino

The battle for the leadership of Banca Carige will see the former top managers of Unicredit from the XNUMXs on opposite sides, when the bank in Piazza Gae Aulenti was managed by Leonardo's current CEO.

Paolo Fiorentino leads the list presented by the financier Raffaele Mincione for the renewal of Banca Carige's board of directors in the white-hot assembly on 20 September. Mincione is allied with the Volpi shareholders and thus counts on putting together a package of shares equal to 20% of the capital which will compete head-to-head with the list of the Malacalza family, which in turn holds approximately 24% of the bank's capital Genoese.

Curiously, the battle for the leadership of Banca Carige will see the "Profumo boys" on opposite sides, ie the former top managers of Unicredit from the XNUMXs when the bank in Piazza Gae Aulenti was managed by Leonardo's current CEO. On the one hand - in the Malacalza list - the candidacies of Pietro Modiano, number one of the SEA, for the presidency and Fabio Innocenzi, current number one of Ubs Italia and former managing director of Banca Popolare di Verona, for the role of managing director stand out. Lucrezia Reichlin is running for vice presidency.

On the other list – that of Mincione – the number one candidate is the outgoing CEO, Paolo Fiorentino, whom his supporters would like to keep in the same chair while Raffaele Mincione is the candidate for the presidency of Banca Carige. Bruno Pavesi, managing director of the Luigi Bocconi Commercial University as well as President of MISB Bocconi, is a candidate for the vice presidency. The other candidates are: Luisa Marina Pa Sotti (former director), Bruno Savio, Paola de Martini, Manuela Geranio, Alfonsino Mei, Aldo Spinelli, Massimo Catizone, Cristina Amato, Silvio de Fecondo (representative of minority shareholders).

“Banca Carige needs to proceed quickly with its recovery process undertaken by Paolo Fiorentino in recent months, without the dispersion or loss of precious time that a change at the top would entail. For this reason, his confirmation and the presence of directors who already have experience with the bank and who have shown great responsibility in the list favors continuity. I would like my candidacy for president to be read as a commitment to guarantee stability in a climate of serenity, capable of achieving shared objectives". This is Raffaele Mincione's comment on the presentation of the list for the bank's board of directors.
