Bagnoli, Renzi: we act if local authorities are stopped

“We strongly say that Bagnoli will be cleaned up and healed. We owe it to the Neapolitans, to all Italian citizens". This was stated by the Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi, at Palazzo Chigi on the occasion of the signing of the supervisory protocol on the procedures for the reclamation of the Bagnoli areas. The initiative was attended by the commissioner of Bagnoli, Salvo Nastasi, the president of Anac, Raffaele Cantone, and the CEO of Invitalia, Domenico Arcuri.

“The time for chatting is over – added Renzi -, if Bagnoli starts again, Naples starts again and the whole of the South starts again”. The Premier explained that the protocol was signed at Palazzo Chigi and not in Naples to "avoid the natural controversies which, due to obvious responsibility, continue to arise whenever Bagnoli is mentioned". And he added: "If those who have to do things, in particular the local authorities, don't do it, it's up to us, and we want to do it with the most advanced anti-corruption procedures".

The Prime Minister also pointed out that "Bagnoli was the biggest and most incredible disaster that Italy has had in the last twenty years and today it will be the largest environmental remediation work in Europe". Renzi then announced that "over the next week the first ecobales will go away".
