Ryanair baggage, rules and costs change

Only some categories of passengers will be able to bring two bags on board, the others will end up in the hold – The cost of luggage drops – CEO O'Leary on Alitalia: “We will present an offer for Alitalia's long-haul assets”.

The rules on baggage have changed for those traveling with Ryanair. Starting November 1, the low-cost airline will change its policy.

Travelers will be able to travel with only one piece of hand luggage, but the fees for checked bags will drop from €35 to €25. At the same time, the weight allowance increases: it goes from 15 to 20 kilos for all baggage.

Returning to the suitcases to take on board, from 1 November only certain categories of passengers will be able to bring two bags on the plane, namely Priority Boarding customers, including Plus, Flexi Plus & Family Plus.

All the others, on the other hand, will be able to have only one smaller bag on board, while the second, if less than 20 kg, will go in the hold at no additional cost.

But that's not the only news coming from Dublin. On the financial front, the CEO of the company, Michael O'Leary, has announced that will present “a binding offer to purchase Alitalia by the October 2 deadline. The offer – specified the CEO – will concern long-range assets only.

“There could be a very positive future for Alitalia's long-haul flights – continued O'Leary – If one day Alitalia were to enter the perimeter of our group, it would continue to be a different company from Ryanair, indeed it would even be a competitor on Italian territory. We don't want to turn it into a low-cost subsidiary of Ryanair. Ryanair remains as it is, a competitor of Alitalia”.

The two companies “will remain well separated. We want to acquire Alitalia to make it successful. Because with the right focus, the right management and the right routes, Ryanair and Alitalia can continue to grow in tandem,” he concluded.
