Ryanair baggage: Antitrust in the field, investigates the new costs

The Antitrust wants to see clearly on the new baggage rules established by Ryanair, the same rules that have infuriated thousands of travellers.

The Competition Authority has initiated proceedings against the low-cost airline to verify whether an "unfair commercial practice" has been implemented, given that hand luggage should be considered an "essential element of transport" and therefore Ryanair's new prices could "alter the transparency of fares to compare the offers of different carriers".

Speaking in simple terms, the suspicion would be that passengers would be forced to suffer hidden costs on the ticket linked to the embarkation of hand baggage in the hold, given that, when the search is carried out, the prices would not appear, thus distorting " comparison with the rates of other companies".

We recall that, at the end of August, to the dismay of travellers, Ryanair announced that from 1 November anyone wishing to travel with the usual small trolley will have to pay both to bring it on board and to check it in the hold. In the first case, priority will have to be purchased at a cost of 6 euros and travelers will also be able to bring a small bag or backpack. If, on the other hand, you decide to check in small baggage, the cost varies from 8 to 10 euros. The declared purpose of this measure is to convince passengers to send their baggage in order to reduce boarding times as much as possible and avoid delays in flight departures.
