Airplane baggage and self-certification: the rules from 26 June

They entered into force on 26 June new rules for air travellers. ENAC, the National Civil Aviation Authority, has announced the guidelines on temperature measurement, baggage and self-certifications that airlines must implement on flights departing from and arriving in Italy.

HAND LUGGAGE

“As regards hand luggage, passengers are only allowed to bring on board luggage that is large enough to fit under the seat in front of the assigned seat. For health reasons, the use of hatboxes is not permitted in any way”.

These the indications of ENAC. From 26 June, therefore, only a bag or a small backpack can be brought on board to be placed under the seat, while the classic trolley that until yesterday passengers placed in the overhead bins will go into the hold for free.

In compliance with the provisions of ENAC,  Alitalia communicates that:

“It will only be allowed to bring on board small luggage that can be placed under the seat such as, for example, women's bags, backpacks, computer cases, in any case not exceeding 36x45x20 cm. We invite passengers to drop off their baggage at the airport at the Check-in/Drop-off counters for free check-in baggage.

TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT

ENAC also establishes that passengers must undergo temperature checks before accessing the aircraft. If the temperature exceeds 37,5 degrees, access on board is not permitted. "Therefore, a further check is not necessary as indicated above if the passenger has been subjected to the measurement at the entrance to the airport and in any case before boarding", clarifies the institution.

SELF-CERTIFICATION IS NEEDED TO FLY

Those who will have to fly in the next few days will have to provide a self-certification in which the passenger must certify that they have not had close contact with people affected by Covid-19 in the last two days, before the onset of symptoms and up to 14 days after the onset of symptoms. In the event of symptoms after landing, the passenger must notify the airline and the competent health authority of his state of health within 8 days of disembarking the aircraft. The form must be completed by the passenger, preferably electronically, and delivered to the company before boarding.
