Winter is serious, and after a few days of relative respite the great cold returns over the whole peninsula, with a new perturbation of arctic origin which is starting a new phase of frost and snow, also in the centre-south, set to last for a good part of next week. Quick dusting of snow already this morning in Bologna, without disruption to traffic. The Autostrade per l'Italia company reports sleet on the Apennine section of the Autosole, on the A13 Bologna-Padua between the Emilian capital and Altedo and on the A14 between Bologna and Castel San Pietro.

A strong hailstorm on the island of Capri (Naples) unusually whitewashed the territory of the municipality of Anacapri this morning. A light rain persists in Naples and its province and temperatures have dropped, while there is also an alert in Rome and the capital is trying to prepare itself for an atmospheric phenomenon that has put it in crisis several times in recent years. All the municipal bodies competent to deal with a possible snowfall in the city are involved, i.e. the local police, the Campidoglio Development, Infrastructure and Environment departments and representatives of the Municipalities, together with the Civil Protection. The vehicles of the local police of Rome are ready with chains on board and bags of salt.

Concern also for crops, already decimated by the first wave, especially in the South, with entire crops of winter vegetables lost and damage to fruit trees such as citrus fruits and vines collapsed under the weight of the snow. Coldiretti estimates damages for hundreds of thousands of euros and possible repercussions on the shopping cart, as also explained in an interview given to FIRSTonline.
