Bad weather, new alarm: more deaths in the North

After a very brief respite, bad weather has returned to rage throughout Italy since Wednesday, especially in the North where this second wave has already caused another 4 deaths, after the 13 total of the past few days. Two people died in Lillianes (Aosta) in the Gressoney Valley, following the fall of a tree on the car in which they were travelling. Two more deaths today in South Tyrol: a 53-year-old man from Laces died in the Bolzano hospital, who on Monday, while driving in Val Venosta, was hit by a tree near Coldrano. The second victim is an 81-year-old from Val Badia who, intent on fixing the roof of his malga damaged by the violent disturbance, crashed. Dying instantly.

The deterioration mainly concerns the Veneto (especially in the Belluno area) where there is a red alert, but now the disturbance is moving towards the Tyrrhenian regions of the Center: the alert is orange in Lazio (The president of the Region, Nicola Zingaretti, signed the deed with which the Region declared a state of calamity for the entire Lazio territory), in Liguria and Sicily, yellow in Piedmont, Tuscany and Campania. Palermo is also flooded, only the central-southern Adriatic regions and Sardinia are being saved.

Abundant snowfalls are expected in the Aosta Valley, starting from 1.300-1.500 meters above sea level. The snow and avalanche office predicts that quantities between 50 centimeters and one meter will accumulate. A new high water is expected in Venice on Thursday afternoon with a maximum of 110 centimeters above sea level. A peak of 156 centimeters was reached on Monday.

In the North, the situation should gradually improve on Friday, with bad weather that will remain intense in the Center and South. Over the weekend, the situation is uncertain, some sunshine will return but in general, the rains will continue for a few more days, at least until the middle of the next week, when an anticyclone arrives which will also bring milder temperatures. It is the so-called summer of San Martino, but first there will still be suffering.
