Bad weather: swollen rivers and floods throughout Italy. In Tuscany there was a national state of emergency for a year

New wave of bad weather over Italy with flooding, landslides and overflowing rivers. In Toscana the toll is starting to get heavy: five victims and several missing. So much so that it pushed governor Eugenio Giani to declare a regional state of emergency. Maximum attention for the Arno and Bisenzio in Prato where flooding has also been recorded in the hospital. Delicate situation also Veneto where, in the Belluno area, a firefighter is missing. TO Milano another flood of the Seveso is feared. Heavy rain and strong winds also at Roma and in Lazio. Red alert also issued Friuli-Venezia Giulia and orange in 9 other regions. Breath held inEmilia Romagna and Liguria, towards declaration of a state of emergency. To protect Venezia, the Tide Reporting Forecast Center has informed that the MOSE will remain active until the early afternoon of Friday 3 November. Gale of wind on Sardinia, with fires and collapsed trees. Also in South Tyrol It's on maximum alert: heavy snowfall has been recorded and rain has been falling incessantly since yesterday. Several roads were closed and train traffic, already suffering yesterday, could be subject to changes and cancellations today too, Trenitalia informed. Schools closed almost everywhere from North to South: Trieste, Belluno, Verona, Treviso, Massa Carrara, Naples, Caserta, Benevento.

An extremely delicate situation throughout the country, so much so that the Today's Council of Ministers approved a national state of emergency for one year – on the proposal of the Minister for Civil Protection and Sea Policies Nello Musumeci – in the territory of the provinces of Florence, Livorno, Pisa, Pistoia and Prato. “Considering the need to give an immediate response to the affected population – we read in a note from Palazzo Chigi after the Council of Ministers – an initial allocation of 5 million euro to guarantee the most urgent measures and interventions aimed at rescuing and assisting the population and restoring the functionality of public services and strategic network infrastructures, waste and rubble management activities".

Tuscany plagued by bad weather

Among the most affected provinces of Tuscany are that of Prato, of Pistoia e Pisa. During the night there were more than a thousand interventions between Campi Bisenzio, Cerreto Guidi, Carmignano, Prato, Montemurlo, Quarrata, the provinces of Pisa and Livorno, Giani informed via social media. 40 thousand users remained without electricity. 400 are displaced. Regarding the flooded hospitals, "the access problems at the Pontedera hospital have been resolved, and are being resolved at the Borgo San Lorenzo hospital and the Prato emergency room". In Montemurlo, in the province of Prato, 200 mm of rain fell.

Bad weather in Italy: what will happen at the weekend?

The weather will remain disturbed even over the weekend, the most intense effects of which will be felt above all Sunday, November 5. In the second part of the day Saturday November 4 the North and part of the Center will be hit by continued heavy rains and showers. Especially Liguria, Piedmont, Lombardy and Upper Tuscany.

On Sunday, bad weather will be felt in the Centre-South. In the southern regions, scattered showers are possible on the lower Tyrrhenian side. In the afternoon the weather will tend to improve throughout the Centre-North, while some isolated rain may affect Campania and the upper Tyrrhenian Calabria. Uncertain and at times rainy weather also for the Islands. Winds still very strong with renewed risk of storm surges for Liguria, the Tyrrhenian regions and Sardinia.

The beginning of next week should begin with a generalized improvement albeit in a context of variability and some scattered phenomena from North to South: but it is still early to understand the exact evolution.
