Baby pensions cost 10 billion a year

Baby pensions are back in the news. After the controversy sparked by Gianfranco Fini, who in Ballarò pointed to the wife of Umberto Bossi among the under-40 pensioners, and the resulting brawl in the Chamber, Confartigianato tries to quantify the phenomenon.

There are 50 thousand Italian workers who have taken advantage of retirement under the age of 500. The cost for the State can be quantified to date at 163,5 billion. The geographical distribution sees the North in the lead, with 62,55% of young retirees, followed by the South, 20,3% of the total, and by the Centre, with 17,1%.

78,6% of these treatments are provided by Inpdap and weigh on the state budget for 7,43 billion a year. The remaining portion, disbursed by INPS, amounts to 2,02 billion.
